- la France a recours au contrat SALIS [Solution intérimaire pour le transport aérien stratégique], attribué par l’Otan [...] affrète des Antonov AN-124-100, capables de transporter 120 tonnes

-  La Commission européenne lança le projet Strategic Air Transport for Outsized Cargo [SATOC], au titre de la Coopération structurée permanente [PESCO], en 2021. Coordonné par l’Allemagne, il réunit actuellement trois autres pays, à savoir la France, les Pays-Bas et la République tchèque.

- Airbus Defence & Space proposa une solution basée sur son avion de transport hors gabarit A300-600ST « Beluga». Seulement, faute d’avoir su trouver le bon modèle économique, Airbus mit un terme à cette activité en janvier 2025, alors qu’il venait d’être retenu.

- Selon l’AED, deux pistes sont privilégiées pour éviter une rupture capacitaire en matière de transport aérien stratégique : la modernisation «en profondeur» des actuels AN-124-100 ou le développement d’un «nouvel avion européen pour remplacer les C-17».

- Dans le même temps, l’US Air Force a récemment dit envisager de relancer la production du C-17A Globemaster III, celle-ci ayant été arrêtée par Boeing en 2015.
